Understanding PNP Equitable Services

Private nonprofit (PNP) schools may be eligible to receive equitable services through Title I, Part A; Title I, Part C (Migrant Education); Title II, Part A; Title III, Part A (English Learners and Immigrant Students); Title IV, Part A; and Title IV, Part B, programs. Equitable services provide eligible students, teachers, and families in participating PNP schools with access to services and benefits comparable to those offered to public schools. Eligible PNP schools do not receive federal funds directly. Instead, the local educational agency (LEA) maintains control of federal funds and is responsible for determining, implementing, and overseeing equitable services provided to eligible students, teachers, and families in accordance with state and federal requirements.

The Equitable Services Process

Eligible private nonprofit (PNP) schools participate in a timely and meaningful consultation process with the local educational agency (LEA), which is responsible for determining, designing, implementing, and overseeing equitable services. Through consultation, the LEA and participating PNP schools identify educational needs, determine eligibility, and develop equitable services that support PNP students, teachers, and families in accordance with state and federal requirements.
